Canada Day Weekend

Happy Canada Day on July 1!!

 

Did you know there are several community events happening across the North Shore this Canada Day Weekend.

The Vagabond Opera-Concert is taking place Friday, June 27 7.30 pm FREE, at the West Vancouver Memorial Library, 1950 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, 604-925-7400.

This Portland-based neo-cabaret ensemble, Vagabond Opera, features singers, cello, sax, clarinet, bass, drums and accordion.  Doors open early at 7.00 pm, and refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Library.  This concert is presented by North Shore Jazz/Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

There is also Friday Movie night on the Plaza.  9.20 to 10pm FREE.  Popcorn and beverages will be available for purchase.  This week's movie is Back to the Future, Civic Plaza 120 West 14th Street.  604- 983- 7354 for more information.

On Saturday, June 28, from 10.00 am -2.00 pm, there is an old fashioned carnival, complete with canival games, live music, community engagement and more.  Taking place in the Lynn Valley Village, 1277 Lynn Valley Road.  604-987-2050.

The same day, the BC  Bike Race is taking place, with Saturday marking day zero, a seven day mountain bike adventure from North Vancouver to Whistler.  It's a tour of the BC West Coast, trails, towns and lifestyle.  The festivities start with a farmer's market and the kid's race.  Registration begins at 10.am and the race begins at 11.00 am.  Sunday June 29, 8.00 am the race begins.  You can cheer the racers, at the end of Lynn Valley Road, the end of the line cafe, and at the top of Mountain Highway near the water tower.  Argyle Secondary School, 1131 Frederick Road.or visit the website   bcbikerace.com   to register and view more information.

 

On Tuesday July 1, there is the North Vancouver Canada Day Parade.  Pancake Breakfast at 7.30 am, Parade starts at 10.00 am.  The Mount Seymour Lions Club will be charging a small fee of $5 for the pancake breakfast from 7.30 am to 9.30 am on Grand Boulevard near 13th Street.  You will need to take your own cutlery and plate.  The parade starts from this location and proceeds west down 13th Street to Lonsdale, turning north on Lonsdale.  At 17th Street, the parade heads west where it will end at Mahon Park.  A BBQ lunch will be available to purchase at the Royal Canadian Legion, 123 West 15th Street.  

 

There are additional activities which are family focused , again free of charge, from 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm at Waterfront Park, 200 Block of West Esplanade.

You can also head on down to John Lawson Park from 4.00pm to 10.30 pm to enjoy live entertainment throughout the evening and watch the fireworks show.  There will be food vendors on site, if you don't want to take your own food.
